Eastman Chemical Co. (Kingsport, Tennessee) announced on Oct. 31 that it will move forward with previously announced plans to build a second methanolysis facility at Longview, Texas.
The Longview recycling facility will have the capacity to recycle approximately 110,000 metric tons per year of hard-to-recycle polyethylene terephthalate (PET) by methanolysis. The product monomers will be used as a circular feedstock for virgin polyesters. Eastman completed its first methanolysis unit at Kingsport earlier this year and has plans to invest in another facility in France.
